Ever since I was a knee-high tot, music has been my one-way ticket to Zen-land. The big bang of my musical journey happened when my sister smuggled me into my first rave at Raindance in Barking, East London. I was just 15 and it felt like a euphoric lightning bolt had struck me. That was the night I knew I wanted to be a DJ. Watching legends like Carl, Fabio, and Grooverider work their magic up close was utterly spellbinding.
But life, with its impeccable sense of humour, had other plans. Running a business, getting married, and raising kids made DJing seem as feasible as becoming a professional unicorn tamer. Still, my love for upfront dance music never faded.
Enter my wife, who, bless her, saw my DJing dreams glimmering behind his dad duties. She got me an amateur setup, and I spent the next year or two sneaking in mixes like a kid hiding sweets. Then one Christmas, Santa – who bore a striking resemblance to my wife – dropped a Traktor setup under the tree. My mind was blown, especially since my wife detests house music with a fiery passion. Clearly, this woman was on a mission.
By October 2018, we’d constructed a soundproof summer house at the end of the garden, my very own DJ den. Most nights, you’ll find me there, lost in my musical world.
In December 2019, the DJ gods blessed me with a mentorship from DJ Bergwall. Big shoutout to him for all the inspiration and pushing me towards my DJ dreams. And another massive thank you to Anna, my cheerleader and rock.
Upgrading to a Pioneer controller in 2020 and diving into Rekordbox was a game changer, I threw myself into practice, eventually passing the Club Ready DJ School course in August 2020. Since then I knew I had the confidence to play to a crowd, and since played at many parties, pubs, and clubs, such as EGG London, festivals, boat parties and Day Raves, I’ve also been doing weekly radio shows since 2020.
